New Delhi, May 10 (IANS). In today’s irregular and fast-paced life, people give importance to quickly prepared food, even though it may be harmful for health, people consume it indiscriminately. However, nature has many fruits and vegetables rich in nutrients, consumption of which provides many health benefits. One such fruit and vegetable is Lasoda or Gondi, which is also called ‘Indian Cherry’.
Forest and Environment Department of Bihar has given detailed information about its many health benefits. Lasoda is a fast growing deciduous tree. It usually grows 10 to 20 meters high. Scientific name is Cordia dichotoma. Its fruits, leaves and seeds are all full of medicinal properties. Essential nutrients like protein, fiber, calcium, phosphorus, zinc and iron are found in abundance in this fruit.
According to Bihar Forest Department, Lasoda is not only beneficial for health but is also important from environmental point of view. This tree is of medium size and can be grown easily.
Cooked Lasoda has a sweet taste, which is very tasty to eat, while the pulp of raw fruits is used in place of gum. Vegetables are made from it in villages and delicious pickles are also prepared. If we look at the health benefits of its consumption, since it is rich in fiber, it strengthens the digestive system and provides relief from the problem of constipation. Having a good amount of iron helps in removing anemia.
At the same time, calcium and phosphorus make bones strong. The antioxidants present in it protect the body from free radicals and increase immunity. Lasode leaves and seeds are also used in Ayurveda.
Lasoda is easily available during summer season. It can be eaten fresh or used as pickle, chutney and vegetable. According to experts, by consuming it regularly, the body gets nourishment in a natural way.
