New Delhi, October 10 (IANS). Turmeric is not just a spice but also a life-saving medicine. In Ayurveda, turmeric is called ‘Haridra’ and yellow gold. Turmeric, found in the form of a small lump like ginger, is known by different names in different places.
Apart from ‘Haridra’, turmeric is also known as Launga, Curcuma, and Gauri Vatta Vilasani. The special thing is that apart from food and health, turmeric also has a deep connection with religion. Be it puja or any auspicious event, turmeric plays its role everywhere.
Turmeric also contains curcumin, curcuminoids, oil, iron, water and fat. Curcumin in turmeric is very important for our body. Curcumin is what gives turmeric its golden color and gives it the power to fight many diseases. Curcumin is a type of antioxidant, which increases the body’s immunity and is helpful in fighting diseases like cancer. Apart from this, turmeric also helps in reducing any kind of swelling or arthritis problem in the body. Turmeric is also beneficial for skin and heart.
Even in Ayurveda, turmeric is considered a treasure of qualities. Turmeric balances all three doshas of the body, reduces phlegm tendency and vata. Apart from this, turmeric has been used for centuries in healing wounds because along with healing the wound, turmeric also reduces wound infection and improves digestion.
Along with the properties of turmeric, the method of its use has also been described in Ayurveda. Turmeric and honey can be used to increase immunity and avoid cold. For this, take half teaspoon turmeric with one teaspoon honey, this will also clear the throat and phlegm. Turmeric decoction is helpful in getting rid of many infectious diseases.
A decoction of ginger, basil, honey and black pepper along with turmeric protects from cold, fever and throat problems and provides strength to the body.
Our elders always said that we must drink turmeric milk. Turmeric milk warms the body from within, helps in reducing swelling inside the body and helps in healing internal wounds. For this, boil half a teaspoon of turmeric in milk and take it at night. Apart from this, turmeric paste heals wounds and also enhances beauty.
