New Delhi, July 18 (IANS). Back pain, shoulder stiffness and mental stress have become a common problem in modern lifestyle. In such a situation, Akarna Dhanurasana works as a surefire and effective yoga asana. This asana not only increases physical flexibility and strength, but also instills concentration and mental fortitude in the seeker.
Made up of three Sanskrit words ‘Aa’ (Tak), ‘Karna’ (Ear), and ‘Dhanush’ (Bow), this asana literally means ‘pulling the bow till the ear’. This asana mainly helps in increasing the flexibility of thighs, hips and shoulders and improving concentration.
The Ministry of AYUSH has described this asana as an effective yoga practice that brings strength, balance and flexibility to the body. According to him, this posture gives the practitioner a bow-like shape, which increases concentration and strengthens the muscles of the spine, back and legs.
Regular practice of Akarna Dhanurasana strengthens the muscles of the back, shoulders and chest. The spine remains flexible and healthy, which provides great relief from back pain. The pressure on the abdominal organs improves digestion and removes problems like constipation. The muscles of the legs, thighs and hips are stretched. This asana also improves balance and concentration. At the mental level, this posture strengthens the feeling of self-confidence.
According to experts, Akarna Dhanurasana is a powerful yoga asana that establishes balance in both body and mind, which proves to be especially beneficial for yoga practitioners, although in the beginning people should do this asana only under the supervision of a yoga instructor. One should not put any pressure on the body during the practice of asana.
If you have any serious disorder or injury in your back (spine) or neck, avoid doing this asana. During the exercise, do it under the supervision of an expert and do not put forceful pressure on the body.
