New Delhi, March 7 (IANS). Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system mistakes a protein called gluten as harmful. When celiac patients eat gluten, the lining of their small intestine becomes damaged, preventing proper absorption of nutrients. This has a direct impact on their health and sometimes this problem persists for a long time.
Adopting a gluten-free diet is important in celiac disease as it protects the body from damage, overcomes nutritional deficiencies and makes life better and active. With this, patients can remain healthy and fit for a long time.
If you keep eating gluten, then problems like stomach ache, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, weight loss etc. occur. Consuming gluten for a long time can also cause problems like anemia, bone weakness and vitamin deficiency. Therefore, it is important for celiac patients to completely stop gluten.
It is also very important to understand what to eat in a gluten-free diet. Things like fresh fruits, vegetables, millets, corn meal, beans and nuts are completely safe. These provide carbohydrates, proteins and fiber to the body, which maintains health.
At the same time, items like bread, pasta, cakes and pizza which are made from other gluten containing grains like wheat, barley, rye or oats should be avoided completely. Consuming these can increase problems.
Gluten-free diet is not only important to control the disease but also to live a healthy life in the long run. This provides essential nutrition to the body, reduces stomach and intestine problems and also maintains energy.
Apart from this, celiac patients should keep in mind that even if they go out to eat, they should avoid consuming items containing gluten. Instead, they can consume things made from millets, corn meal, beans and nuts.
