Varanasi, June 17 (IANS). A yoga awareness program was organized under the ‘Gangotri to Ganga Sagar’ campaign at the holy Ravidas Ghat in Kashi. The objective of this program is to spread the importance of yoga to the masses and inspire people towards a healthy lifestyle. A large number of people participated and practiced yoga in this program organized on the banks of Ganga.
On this occasion, Uttar Pradesh Government Minister Dayashankar Mishra said that this yatra will start from Gangotri and will go till Ganga Sagar. He said that this campaign is being run with the joint efforts of AYUSH Ministry, AYUSH Mission and Morarji Desai National Yoga Institute. He said that as World Yoga Day is nearing on June 21, this is a week-wide special program under which awareness about yoga is being spread across the country.
The Minister further said that this campaign is not limited only to big cities, but efforts are being made to take Yoga to river banks, nectar ponds of villages, mythological sites, historical heritages, religious places and parks of cities. He says that the main objective of this campaign is to connect every section of the society with yoga. This effort is moving forward under the inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
At the same time, Director General of AYUSH Department Chaitravi said that this event is being organized to commemorate the 12th International Yoga Day. The ‘Gangotri to Ganga Sagar’ series was started from Gangotri on June 14, with the aim of spreading the message of Yoga from the origin of Mother Ganga to the point where it merges into the sea.
He told that under this campaign, programs were first organized in Rishikesh and Haridwar, after which a grand yoga event was organized in Prayagraj on 16th June. Taking the same sequence forward, this program was organized on June 17 at Ravidas Ghat in Varanasi. He said that practicing yoga on the banks of Ganga is not only beneficial for physical health, but it also provides mental peace and spiritual energy.
Referring to this year’s theme “Yoga for Healthy Aging”, he said that its objective is to enable people to lead a healthy and active life despite ageing. Besides, the message of “Do Yoga, Stay Healthy” is also being spread to the people.
