In Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the Union Health Ministry has issued advisory amid questions arising on phlegm syrup over the incidents of sudden death of 12 children in the last few days. It states that in the investigation of any sample of cup syrup, dangerous chemicals like Diothylene Glycol (DEG) or Ethylene Glycol (EG) have not been found which are believed to be the cause of kidney failure of children. However, investigation is still going on, along with this, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has said that children below 2 years of age should not be given cough and cold medicines. They are not recommended for children under 5 years of age.

It has also been said that it is necessary to see a doctor before giving phlegm syrup to children younger than 5 years and should give appropriate doses under the supervision of the doctor itself. The public has also been called to be aware of this subject. The team of experts of NCDC, NIV, ICMR, AIIMS Nagpur and health officials is investigating all possible causes of the death of children.
Earlier in this case, Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla had told that about 12 types of drug samples have been sent for testing. The results of three samples have been achieved. No such substance has been found in the report that shows that these drugs have led to deaths. At the same time, on the death of nine children from drinking cuff syrup in Chhindwara, the Drug Controller, Joint Director, Tina Yadav says, this incident is very unfortunate. The samples have been collected and the investigation is on. After the investigation report, it will be known whether this medicine was the cause of death.
