An IndiGo flight going from Delhi to Dimapur caught fire due to a power bank explosion, causing a huge commotion. It was fortunate that the cabin crew immediately extinguished the fire and a major accident was averted. Now after this incident, DGCA is considering imposing strict rules or ban on power banks in the entire country.

🚨 Fire in flight, panic among passengers – immediate action of DGCA

The incident happened during taxiing at Delhi airport on Sunday, when a passenger’s power bank in the seat pocket got hot and started burning.
IndiGo issued a statement saying:

“Crew members took immediate action as per SOP and brought the fire under control within seconds. All passengers are safe.”

🔥 Power bank becomes ‘time bomb in flying plane’?

DGCA is now investigating whether:

Should in-flight use of power banks be completely banned?

Should battery capacity limits and stricter regulations be implemented?

Or if the danger appears to be too great, even carrying may be banned!

🌍 What’s going on in the world? Many airlines have already banned

Airline power bank rules Emirates can carry power banks up to 100 Wh, use completely banned Singapore Airlines ban on charging and use in flights

Now DGCA is also preparing to take similar strict steps.

⚠️ Why has the danger increased?

The power bank contains a lithium-ion battery which, when overheated:

can release smoke

may burst

could catch fire

And in a plane flying in the air, there is not even 1% margin of error – hence DGCA does not want to take any risk now.

🛑 Warning for passengers – keep these things in mind (otherwise you may be prevented from boarding the flight)

✅ Keep the power bank in the cabin bag, never in the check-in bag
✅ Do not leave the seat connected for charging
✅ Stay away from low quality and local power banks
