Security forces will create more than 30 new advance bases in Chhattisgarh and special units of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and its Cobra Battalion will go ahead in the interiors and target big Maoist leaders.

Official sources said on Saturday that it is part of the new scheme designed to complete the deadline for ending Naxalism from the country by March 2026.

A high -level meeting was held on Friday in the state capital Raipur with Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) Tapan Deka, Director General of CRPF (DG) Gyanendra Pratap Singh, Chhattisgarh DGP Arun Dev Gautam and other senior officials were present.

The meeting on anti -Naxal operations reviewed the deployment of security forces and their needs for the new unit, which will go to the interiors even further.

Sources told the ‘PTI-language’ that after the end of the monsoon rains, it has been decided to open more than 30 new advance operation base (FOB) in remote areas of Bastar region to further intensify the aggressive campaign.

He said that most of this work will be done by CRPF units, while its special jungle war battalion ‘Cobra’ will go to the main Naxal -affected areas of the state.

According to security establishment sources, the meeting was organized to review the progress of campaigns and plan new campaigns, keeping in mind the Central Government’s declared deadline to abolish the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) from the country by March 2026.

The Bastar region of Chhattisgarh still remains the last stronghold of the Naxalites, where some Naxalite presence and violent activities are taking place.

Sources said that forces like Cobra and Chhattisgarh Police District Reserve Guard (DRG) have been instructed to target the remaining leadership of Maoists.

A top official said that the results have already been achieved with carrying many Naxalites, and “If the current pace of the campaign is good, there is a possibility that the deadline for ending Naxalism from the country could be completed by December 2025 or January 2026.”

Sources said that recently some new units were sent by CRPF from Jharkhand and other states, which have also been posted in the current FOB and will work further as per the decision taken in the latest meeting.

CRPF and other forces have created about 50 FOBs in the state over the years. These bases have been built to help in the operations of security forces in remote Naxalite areas.

CRPF Director General Singh and Chhattisgarh DGP Arun Dev Gautam also held a separate meeting on this subject in Jagdalpur on Saturday.

The CRPF said in a post on social media, “The center points of discussion were to increase the synergy between security forces, intelligence agencies and administration to strengthen peace efforts and eradicate Naxalism from the state.”
