Immigration officials at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport have detained a Bangladeshi national named Ahmed Raza Hasan Mehdi. He was planning to flee to Europe via India, but based on security inputs, he was caught in time. This accused faces serious charges of murder of a Hindu police officer in Bangladesh and India has sent him back to Bangladesh after legal process.

Background of the accused and the murder case
Ahmed Raza Hasan Mehdi belongs to Habibganj district of Bangladesh and has been active in student politics there. The main allegation is that he took part in the attack on Baniyachang police station on August 5, 2024, when there was political turmoil in Bangladesh. During this time, the mob had beaten Sub-Inspector Santosh Chaudhary to death. Mehdi had also shared a video on social media in which he took responsibility for the incident.
Action and deportation at Delhi airport
Security agencies had received information that Mehdi was trying to go to Finland or Portugal via Delhi. The Immigration Department stopped him before he could board the flight and took him into custody after necessary questioning. The Indian government, after completing the diplomatic and legal processes, decided to deport him back to Bangladesh so that he could face court proceedings there. At present the accused is said to be in the custody of Bangladeshi Police.
