Delhi Police on Friday registered an FIR in connection with the dissemination and dissemination of false, misleading and malicious information on social media, alleging that teachers in Delhi government schools were instructed to count stray dogs.

In this case, FIR was registered on the basis of the complaint lodged by the Directorate of Education of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi.

On Thursday, the Education Director clearly said that the Directorate of Education has never issued any such order, instruction, circular or policy decision.

According to the release, the director said, “The claims being circulated are completely fabricated, baseless and false, and have no connection with any official decision or direction of the Education Department.”

It was clarified that the circular issued on November 20, 2025 was issued only in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court of India in Suo Motu Petition (Civil) No. 5/2025 titled “Terror of Stray Dogs in the City, Children Have to Suffer”.

The release said the sole objective of the circular was to ensure the safety of students by preventing stray dogs from entering the school premises through deployment of security personnel and appropriate entry control measures.

The Director emphasized that there is no mention of counting of stray dogs by teachers in the said circular. The professional dignity, educational role and respect of teachers are paramount and inviolable.

The Directorate further informed that in view of the spread of fake statement, it had officially clarified the position through a press release dated December 30, 2025, clearly stating that no such instructions were issued by the Directorate of Education.

“Despite this official clarification, false and misleading content continued to be deliberately disseminated and amplified, indicating malicious intent and a coordinated effort to mislead the public,” the release said.

The department has also noticed cases of impersonation on social media, in which people are posing as teachers and counting stray dogs through videos and reels. Such acts are serious crimes.

In view of the above, the Directorate of Education has lodged a formal complaint with the Civil Lines Police Station, North District, New Delhi, seeking an investigation into the source, creation and dissemination of the false story, the release said.
