New Delhi. The Election Commission has now taken a major decision amid opposition from the opposition over the voter list special intensive revision (SIR) in Bihar. Along with the names and election symbol of the candidates in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), their color photo will also be put up. This is being done because many times people get confused due to candidates of the same name and vote by pressing the button with the name of another candidate. The Election Commission is going to start it with the Bihar assembly elections to be held this year.
The Election Commission says that this decision has been taken to make election processes transparent and increase the convenience of voters and to protect them from any kind of confusion. Apart from this, the Election Commission has also decided to display the serial numbers and NOTA options of the candidates in bold letters. For this, the Election Commission has amended the existing guidelines under Rule 49B of Election Operation Rules, 1961. The photo of the candidate will be in three quarters of the ballot paper so that the voter is easy to identify and he can vote for his favorite candidate. These reforms starting from Bihar will also be implemented in other elections to be held after this.
Significantly, after the Election Commission Bihar, the SIR campaign is going to start the entire country. The campaign may start from October to maintain the credibility of the voter list. The Election Commission has asked all the states that whatever paperwork and other necessary preparations in this regard should be completed by the last week of September. There is a possibility that a formal announcement of the voting list special intensive revision campaign across the country can be formally announced before the Bihar assembly elections.
