After the Rouse Avenue-based sessions court issued a notice to Congress Parliamentary Party president Sonia Gandhi for allegedly including wrong names in the voter list of 1980-81, BJP MP Sambit Patra on Tuesday alleged that she had forged her documents at that time.

Speaking to reporters in the national capital, Patra said, “Today a special court in Delhi has issued a notice to Sonia Gandhi. This notice is about how her name appeared in the voter list of India in 1980, even though she was not an Indian citizen. She became a citizen of India only in 1983. This means that some documents may have been forged.”

The Sessions Court at Rouse Avenue today issued notice to Sonia Gandhi while hearing a revision petition. The revision petition challenges the magistrate’s September order dismissing a complaint alleging wrongful inclusion of his name in the voters’ list of 1980-81. Sessions Judge Vishal Gogane gave this direction after hearing the preliminary arguments on behalf of the revision petition.

Revisionist Advocate Vikas Tripathi said that Sonia Gandhi’s name was registered in the voter list in 1980, while she became an Indian citizen in 1983. Advocate Tripathi said, “Notice has been issued to Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Police. Our complaint is that Sonia Gandhi’s name was registered in the voter list in 1980, while she became a citizen of India in 1983. She registered her name in the voter list in 1980. Which document was used to get it done? Moreover, his name was removed from the list in 1982 and then added again in 1983.”

Meanwhile, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut targeted Congress over this matter and said that this party is known for corruption. “Congress is known for corruption. They are accused of scams and corruption. They even voted without citizenship,” he said.

Earlier today, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi rejected the allegations against her mother Sonia Gandhi, calling them “complete lies”. Speaking to reporters, she argued that CPP president Sonia Gandhi cast her vote only after becoming a citizen.

Gandhi said, “Do they have any proof? This is a blatant lie. She voted only after becoming a citizen (of India). I don’t know why they are after her when she is about to turn 80. She has dedicated her entire life to the service of the country. Now considering her age, she should be let off.” Senior advocate Pawan Narang, appearing for revisionist Vikas Tripathi, had argued that the case needed to be reconsidered as from the material on record. It indicates that there were serious irregularities in the way Sonia Gandhi’s name was registered in the voter list before she became an Indian citizen.

“Some of the documents may have been forged and tampered with in order to get his name included in the 1980 voter list,” he said, stressing that his name was later removed and then re-enrolled in 1983 on the basis of an application filed in January 1983, both incidents which according to him occurred before he acquired citizenship. After considering the submissions, Judge Gogne issued notices to both the respondents, including Sonia Gandhi. The next hearing of the case will now be on January 6.
