The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding cyclonic storm Montha on Monday. The department clarified that this cyclonic storm may become even more severe by the morning of 28 October.
In fact, the weather system over the south-west and adjacent south-east Bay of Bengal moved north-westwards at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour during the last six hours.
This storm centered over the south-west and adjacent west-central and south-east areas of the Bay of Bengal at 5.30 am today.
“It is very likely to move north-northwestwards over southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 12 hours and then move north-northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 28,” an official release from the weather department said.
According to the weather department, at 5.30 am today, Montha was at 12.2 degrees north and 85.3 degrees east latitude, about 620 km south-east of Kakinada, 650 km south-southeast of Vizag, 560 km east-southeast of Chennai, 790 km south of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 810 km of Port Blair (Andaman and Nicobar Islands). Was in the west.
Later, the weather system is expected to move north-northwestwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast around Kakinada between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam as a severe cyclonic storm during the evening and night of October 28, with maximum sustained wind speed up to 110 kmph.
Meanwhile, the weather department has predicted light thunderstorm and moderate rainfall with gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph at some places in Anakapalle, Kakinada, Konaseema, Srikakulam, Nellore, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Vijayanagaram and West Godavari districts in the next three hours.
Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director Prakhar Jain advised people to stay indoors. He said that today there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in Kakinada, Konaseema, West Godavari, Krishna, Bapatla, Prakasam and Nellore districts.
Similarly, he said that heavy rains are likely in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvatipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitamaraju, Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle districts.
Jain said similar weather is expected in East Godavari, Eluru, NTR, Guntur, Palanadu, Chittoor and Tirupati districts.
