These days, a big change is being seen in the traffic system in Paharganj, one of the busiest and popular areas of Delhi. Important work of sewer line replacement has been started by Delhi Jal Board at Basant Lane, Paharganj. Due to this construction work, Basant Lane has been completely closed for all types of vehicle movement. Due to this sudden change and closure of the road, there is a traffic jam in the surrounding areas, due to which the general public is facing some problems.
The work of replacing the old sewer line continues by Delhi Jal Board, the restriction started from the night of 26 December and will remain in force till 2 January 2026.
According to the information given by the traffic police and administration, this work is extremely necessary in the public interest. The old sewer line on Basant Lane is being replaced with a new and better capacity line so that the sewer infrastructure can be strengthened in future. For this work, traffic block has been started from midnight of 26 and 27 December 2025, which will continue till 2 January 2026 in the new year. No vehicle will be allowed to enter Basant Lane during this entire period.
Tourists and local shopkeepers are facing additional inconvenience, the administration is gearing up to deal with the traffic jam.
This area of Paharganj is the center of tourists, hotels and small traders, hence the road closure is directly affecting the local shopkeepers and travelers coming from outside. Due to the closure of the road, pressure on the surrounding streets and main roads has increased. Heavy vehicles and local commuters have already been warned about this. Although this work is necessary for the development of the area, for now passengers are being advised to be patient.
Drivers should pass through Panchkuian Road and Chelmsford Road, use alternative routes like Nehru Nagar Main Market.
Drivers have been instructed to use alternative routes to avoid jams and ensure smooth traffic. Commuters have been advised to use Panchkuian Road and Chelmsford Road instead of going towards Basant Lane. Apart from this, the routes passing through Nehru Nagar Main Market can also be used. The administration has installed road signs at various places to make it easier for drivers to understand the diversion.
It is important to plan your journey before leaving home, advice is not to park on the roadside and follow the instructions of the traffic police.
To avoid inconvenience during this period, the best solution is for the travelers to plan their route before leaving home. Avoid passing through affected areas and if necessary, allow extra time. The traffic police has given strict instructions that to avoid jam, no driver should park the vehicle on the roadside, but park only at designated places.
