Delhi Police on Saturday detained women activist Yogita Bhayana, Congress leader Mumtaz Patel and several others who were protesting against the decision to grant conditional bail to 2017 Unnao rape case convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar and demanding justice in the Ankita Bhandari murder case.

In the 2017 Unnao rape case, protesters expressed their anger over the Delhi High Court verdict and demanded strict action in cases involving rape and murder.

Recently, the Delhi High Court suspended the sentence of Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the 2017 Unnao rape case. He was convicted by a CBI court in Delhi in a case of rape of a minor and was serving life imprisonment. He has been given relief on the condition of depositing a bail bond of Rs 15 lakh.

However, he has not yet got bail in the case of custodial death of the victim’s father, so he will remain in custody. His appeal and application to suspend his sentence are pending in the Delhi High Court. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in that case.

While granting bail, the High Court has directed that Sengar will not go within a radius of 5 kilometers of the victim’s residence in Delhi. It has also been directed that Sengar will remain in Delhi and will not contact the victim’s family.

This morning, the victim of the 2017 Unnao rape case along with her mother met Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials in the national capital on Saturday and submitted a complaint alleging that the investigating officer (IO) had colluded with a judge to ensure victory for the accused party.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the victim said that she had tried to meet a senior officer, but was told that it was a holiday and she should come back on Monday. However, she said that a junior officer had accepted her complaint. “The junior officer has received my application and has said that the senior officer will meet on Monday,” the victim told ANI.

Alleging serious misconduct, she claimed that the Investigating Officer (IO) had acted against her interests. The victim said, “The complaint is that the investigating officer has been unfair to me. He along with the judge has ensured that the other side wins, so that the rape victim is defeated, demoralized and unable to pursue the case further.

Earlier on Friday, the CBI filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court’s December 23, 2025 order, which had suspended Sengar’s life sentence pending the appeal and granted him bail.

The High Court’s decision has been strongly criticized by the victim’s family and opposition parties, increasing pressure for the Supreme Court’s intervention. Meanwhile, the Ankita Bhandari murder case involves the murder of a 19-year-old receptionist working at the Vanantara resort in Rishikesh, who was pressured to provide “special services” to VIP guests. Three accused, including resort owner Pulkit Arya, were sentenced to life imprisonment in May 2025.
