New Delhi. The Election Commission has filed its reply on a petition related to the Voter List Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the Supreme Court. The Election Commission has said in the affidavit that its decision to get SIR is its constitutional right and the Supreme Court cannot give instructions to the Election Commission to SIR. It has also been said by the Election Commission that if the Supreme Court does this, it will be like encroachment on the rights of the Election Commission. With this, the Election Commission has demanded the Supreme Court to dismiss the SIR public interest litigation.

This PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of advocate Ashwini Upadhyay. In this petition, it has been demanded that the Supreme Court should direct the Election Commission to SIR in a timely manner before the Lok Sabha, Assembly or local body elections across the country. Let us tell you that recently a special intensive revision campaign was conducted in Bihar. The opposition strongly opposed this. Even the monsoon session of Parliament was defeated by opposition MPs and both the houses were postponed most of the session. The opposition demonstrated strongly from inside the Parliament to the streets.

After this, Rahul Gandhi along with Tejashwi Yadav also took out the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar. In fact, Rahul Gandhi and the opposition allege that the Election Commission is cutting the names of the people from the voter list in the name of SIR. Whereas the Election Commission says that only those people have been removed from the voter list who either do not live in that place or they have died. Rahul Gandhi is constantly accusing the Election Commission of votes theft, although he did not give evidence and written affidavit from him.
