ASI Sandeep’s family refused to hand over his body to the administration after meeting Rohtak ASP Prateek Aggarwal and SDM Ashish Kumar on Tuesday. ASI Sandeep’s body was found under suspicious circumstances near a field in Rohtak’s Ladhot village on Tuesday.

According to Rohtak Superintendent of Police Surendra Singh Bhoria, the victim has been identified as Sandeep, who was working as an assistant sub-inspector in Haryana Police. He said that the forensic team has been called to the spot and investigation is going on.

“This was Sandeep, a hard-working ASI of our police department. He was very honest. His body has been found. A forensic team has been called here and investigation is being conducted. He was posted in the cyber cell,” Bhoria told reporters. The incident comes amid the death of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who died under suspicious circumstances at his residence in Chandigarh on October 7.

Earlier on Tuesday, Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi met the family and expressed grief over the death of the IPS officer, who allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Chandigarh.

The Congress MP expressed condolences to his family members and appreciated Puran Kumar’s services and honesty in public life. He was accompanied by several senior Haryana Congress leaders who expressed the party’s solidarity with the bereaved family. These included MP Deepender Singh Hooda, senior Congress leader Gaurav Moolana, former Union Minister Kumari Shailaja and Leader of Opposition in Haryana Assembly Rao Dan Singh.

Meanwhile, Chandigarh Police has issued a notice to IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, widow of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, seeking her late husband’s laptop. According to the police, the laptop is being considered as an important evidence in the ongoing investigation into the officer’s death. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case believes that the device may contain vital information, including the original draft of the alleged suicide note that was found on it. Police sources said the laptop will be sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for digital examination to confirm the authenticity of the suicide note.

The investigators want to confirm whether the note was actually written by Puran Kumar himself or he created it on his laptop. The same laptop also allegedly contains a draft of the suicide note, which police believe the officer sent through email before his death. The SIT also aims to find out how many people received the note, when it was sent and when each recipient saw the email. However, the IAS officer Amneet P Kumar has not yet handed over her late husband’s laptop to the investigation team.
