On Wednesday, four people were killed and several others were injured when a truck collided with a car, bike and bus on National Highway-44 in Gharaunda, Karnal. A truck going from Karnal to Delhi crossed the divider and collided with vehicles going in the wrong direction. The truck crushed a car and two motorcycles and then collided with a bus, causing chaos and briefly disrupting traffic on the busy route.
DSP Rajiv Kumar said that preliminary investigation shows that the truck had lost control before going into the wrong lane. “The container crossed the divider and collided with a bus coming from the opposite direction. Thankfully, the passengers on board the bus did not suffer serious injuries. However, two bikes and a car collided, resulting in the death of four people,” he said.
The deceased include two local residents from Aligarh and two from Karnal. The truck driver, who was injured, is undergoing treatment. The DSP said, “Once his condition becomes stable, we will interrogate him. Only then will the entire incident become clear.” Postmortem and other legal formalities have been completed. Police said more information will be shared as the investigation progresses. After the incident was cleared, traffic on the highway became normal.
