Indian cricketer Rinku Singh’s father died on Friday morning at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida. The PRO of the hospital gave this information. Singh’s father was suffering from fourth stage cancer. He was undergoing treatment at Yatchar Hospital in Greater Noida, but unfortunately he could not come. Rinku had to return home from the T20 World Cup squad to be with her family after her father’s health deteriorated after India’s first Super Cup match against South Africa.
After meeting his father, Rinku immediately returned to Chennai to join the Indian team ahead of the match against Zimbabwe on Thursday.
However, Rinku did not find a place in India’s playing eleven for the match against Zimbabwe as India chose Sanju Samson to open with Abhishek Sharma, due to which Rinku was dropped from the team. Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh expressed his condolences to Rinku Singh and his family on his demise.
Harbhajan wrote in a post, “Deeply saddened to hear the news of the demise of Rinku Singh’s father Shri Khanchand Singh ji. This will be an extremely difficult time for Rinku and his family even while fulfilling his responsibilities during the T20 World Cup. My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with him and his family. May Waheguru rest his soul and give strength and courage to the bereaved family.”
Rinku’s performance in the World Cup so far has been mixed. Often when he comes to the crease, he has very few balls left to score runs. He has scored only 24 runs in five innings, out of which he remained unbeaten twice and his best score has been 11*. In 10 T20 International matches this year, the left-handed batsman has scored 115 runs in eight innings at an average of 28.75. His strike rate is 132.18 and his best score is 44*.
The Indian team will now leave for Kolkata for its last match of Super 8 against West Indies on Sunday. The winner of this match will advance to the semi-finals with South Africa from Group 1.
