A very sad news has come for the Indian community in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Joel Binoy, an 11-year-old Indian student living in Dubai, has died during treatment. Joel was a Class 5 student at Indian High School and his death has created an atmosphere of mourning in the school and the surrounding areas. He was admitted to Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital for some time, where he breathed his last on Sunday.

When will the last rites be held in Kerala?
Joel was originally from Anchal in Kollam district of Kerala. According to the information received, his last rites will be performed on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Lourdes Matha Church, Meenkulam.
The family consists of her parents, Binoy and Roshni, besides three sisters (Diya, Anna, and Jovana), who are deeply shocked by the incident. The entire process of repatriation of the body to India has been completed on 23rd and 24th February so that the family can bid their last farewell on time.
What are the rules for sending dead body to India?
According to the strict rules of the Indian Consulate in Dubai, a blood relative or a person with a valid Power of Attorney (PoA) is required to cancel the documents and send the body.
Under the current policy of Air India and Air India Express, the cost of taking the mortal remains of a child under 12 to India is around Dh750, while for adults it is around Dh1,500. If needed, help can also be taken from Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF).
Joel was also a bright student of Malayalam Mission Dubai Chapter. Mission people and family friends said that he was a very intelligent and happy child. His departure has left a void between the class and the neighbours.
