Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday questioned AAP MP Sanjay Singh on the strict action taken by the central officials, who was allegedly prevented from joining the protest against the arrest of party MLA Mehraj Malik.
Omar Abdullah said that Sanjay Singh has been “closed” in the guest house and he criticized the Central Government for “always adopting a tough stance” in Jammu and Kashmir. “This is not a claim; this is not a claim that Sanjay Singh was lodged in jail. Such things are being done again and again. It is said that everything in Jammu and Kashmir is said that everything is fine and a new! They always take a tough stand against us. “
The AAP MP Sanjay Singh was not allegedly allowed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police to leave the government guest house in Srinagar. He was protesting against the arrest of his own party leader Mehraj Malik. Malik was booked for partisan activities under the Public Safety Act, 1978.
Omar Abdullah said that the decision to put a PSA against Mehraj Malik is “wrong”, he argued that there is no reason to arrest the Doda MLA. The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said, “It is true that he has taken strict action by arresting Mehraj Malik (AAP MLA). There was no reason to arrest him. There is no reason to apply PSA against an MLA.” Umar Abdullah helped the father of Mehraj Malik. Assured and advised him to choose a lawyer from Jammu and Kashmir who understands the PSA law.
Omar Abdullah said, “I met his father and assured him of all possible help. I would advise his party (AAP) to choose a lawyer from Jammu and Kashmir who understands the PSA law well, and did not bring lawyers from outside Jammu and Kashmir. I have talked to some lawyers. We are ready to give all possible help.” We are ready to give all possible help. Urged the government to “improve”. He said that such action is not good for democracy in the Union Territory and gives wrong messages.
He said, “He has carried forward this mistake by stopping a Rajya Sabha MP today illegally. Under which order was it done? It is not good for democracy in Jammu and Kashmir. This will send a wrong message to the public.” Abdullah said, “Those who are doing all this will have to improve themselves.”
Earlier in the day, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah was allegedly not allowed to enter the guest house, where Sanjay Singh was stopped. The two leaders stood behind the gate of the guest house. Sanjay Singh shared the visuals and wrote, “It is a matter of great sadness that Farooq Abdullah ji, who has been the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir many times, came to meet me in the government guest house after hearing the news of my detention by the police, but he was not allowed to meet me. It is not a dictatorship?”
Abdullah also condemned AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s only MLA Mehraj Malik from being detained under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).
