New Delhi. A fresh update has come on impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma of Allahabad High Court surrounded in case of cash burning. According to the Bar and Bench website, the proceedings of impeachment motion on Justice Yashwant Verma have gone ahead. According to the news of the website, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has appointed two lawyers Rohan Singh and Review Dua as the consultant to help the committee investigating the impeachment motion. The Lok Sabha Speaker formed a three -member inquiry committee on 12 August after the impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma.
Justice Yashwant Verma moved the Supreme Court to stop the impeachment motion against himself, but his petition was dismissed from there. Only then did the Lok Sabha Speaker take steps on the impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has asked the inquiry committee to submit his investigation report as soon as possible. Earlier, the Supreme Court had made an inquiry committee of three judges and investigated the allegations against Justice Yashwant Verma. The judges’ inquiry committee in its report indicated the mistake of Justice Yashwant Verma. After which the then CJI Sanjeev Khanna sent the report to President Draupadi Murmu and PM Narendra Modi. Earlier, Sanjeev Khanna had advised Justice Yashwant Verma to resign, but refused to resign.
Justice Yashwant Verma was the first judge of the Delhi High Court. The store room of his government residence was on fire on the night of 14 March 2025. Delhi Fire Brigade and police officials who arrived to extinguish the fire allegedly saw a large number of burnt notes. Police officers made a video of the burnt notes and sent it to the Delhi Police Commissioner. The police commissioner gave information about the burning of the video and the note to the Chief Justice DK Upadhyay of the Delhi High Court. After which Justice Upadhyay told the then CJI Sanjeev Khanna about this. At the same time, Justice Yashwant Verma has been calling it a conspiracy against himself. Justice Verma says that after extinguishing the fire, when his daughter and staff went to the store room, the burnt notes were not seen there. However, several days after the incident, the media found pieces of burnt note near Justice Verma’s Delhi residence.
