Chandigarh, July 4 (IANS). Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Vading on Saturday categorically denied any factionalism in the party’s state unit.
He said there was nothing wrong in senior party leader Charanjit Singh Channi holding a meeting of party leaders at his residence.
In response to a question during an informal conversation with journalists here, Vading said that Channi is a former Chief Minister and chairman of the party’s campaign committee. What is wrong or factionalism in organizing a meeting of party leaders?
He told that all the senior leaders present in the meeting spoke only in favor of the party.
In response to another question, Vading said that he is not in the race for the post of Chief Minister. When asked whether Channi should be declared the chief ministerial candidate, he said it was not his right but the right of the high command, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
The PCC president said his only aim is to ensure that Congress comes back to power in Punjab, as the people of the state want the party’s return. Whatever role has been assigned to me by the Party High Command, I have always performed it to the best of my ability.
He said he would continue to do so as a loyal and dedicated party soldier.
He stressed that we are what our party has made us, otherwise we are nothing. He also said that the party is paramount, above everything else.
Rejecting the speculations of factionalism in the party, he said that very soon all the senior leaders will be seen sharing the stage together.
He further said that we all have only one common goal, that is to see Congress back in power in Punjab, and nothing else matters.
