There is a relief news for the expatriates and citizens living in Kuwait. The Kuwait government has taken a big step to ensure that there is no shortage of food items in the country. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has informed that special cargo flights of Kuwait Airways have reached Kuwait carrying fresh fruits, vegetables and meat. In the first phase, a total of 82 tonnes of goods have been brought from Kochi and Delhi, India. This work is being done with the cooperation of the government and private sector so that there is no shortage of food items in the market and the prices remain stable.
What came in the special flights that reached Kuwait from India?
Flight KU5006: This flight arrived from Kochi, India on March 12. 32 tonnes of fresh fruits and vegetables have been brought in it.
Flight KU5008: This Boeing flight has come from Delhi, which has reached Kuwait with 50 tonnes of fresh meat and other essential items.
Next plan: Apart from India, food items will also be brought from South Africa, Sri Lanka and Kenya in the coming days.
Private sector help: The work of bringing all these goods has been done in collaboration with Lulu Group International.
Kuwait government implemented new rules on food items
The Kuwait government has imposed a one-month temporary ban on the export of all food items to preserve domestic stocks. Along with this, Commerce Minister Osama Budai has ordered to fix the prices of all food items. This means that despite the increase in the cost of bringing goods by flight, no shopkeeper will be able to sell goods at arbitrary prices and common people will get ration only at the fixed price. The Customs Department has also been given strict instructions to keep a 24-hour vigil at the airport and to give immediate clearance to the incoming food items so that they can reach the market as quickly as possible.
