New Delhi. 13 properties of Mehul Choksi, accused in the PNB scam and Nirav Modi’s maternal uncle, are going to be auctioned. PMLA Court has approved the auction of properties worth Rs 46 crore of Mehul Choksi. These include a flat in Borivali, Mumbai worth Rs 2.6 crore, space in Bharat Diamond Bourse and car parking in BKC worth Rs 19.7 crore, 6 factories, machines, precious gems and silver bricks in Goregaon, Mumbai worth Rs 18.7 crore.
PMLA Court Judge AV Gujarati, while approving the auction of Mehul Choksi’s properties, said that if they are left like this, the value will keep decreasing. The judge said that the liquidator should first decide the value of the properties. After that auction can be done. The court said that the liquidator can make a fixed deposit of the amount received from the auction in ICICI Bank. NCLT had appointed the liquidator for the estate of Mehul Choksi in February 2024. Now, with the approval of PMLA court, there is hope that the property of PNB scam accused Mehul Choksi will be auctioned soon.
Mehul Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi are accused of PNB scam of Rs 13000 crore. Nirav Modi is in British jail. His extradition proceedings can take place any time. Recently, Nirav’s maternal uncle Mehul Choksi was arrested in Belgium. Mehul Choksi has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Belgium against extradition to India. Earlier, the court of Antwerp in Belgium had considered him eligible to be extradited to India. The Antwerp Court had refused to accept Mehul Choksi’s plea that if sent to India, he would not get a fair trial and would also be ill-treated. CBI alleges that in the PNB scam of Rs 13000 crore, Mehul Choksi alone embezzled Rs 6400 crore.
