National Democratic Alliance -backed CP Radhakrishnan was elected 15th Vice President on Tuesday. Radhakrishnan defeated India Block candidate Justice B Sudarshan Reddy by 152 votes in the Vice Presidential election held from 10 am to 5 pm on Tuesday.
A total of 98.20 percent polling was held in the Vice Presidential election, out of which 767 out of 788 MPs cast their votes.
NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan got 452 votes of first preference, while India Block candidate Justice B Sudarshan Reddy got 300 votes of first preference. 15 votes were declared illegal.

A total of 13 MPs did not participate in the voting in the Vice Presidential election. These include seven of Biju Janata Dal, four of Bharat Rashtra Samithi, one and one independent MP of Shiromani Akali Dal, before Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Opposition Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other top leaders cast their votes in the Vice Presidential elections.
The post of Vice President has been vacant since July 21, 2025, as Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post citing health reasons. From 2004 to 2007, Radhakrishnan served as Tamil Nadu State President and also led the 19000 km ‘Rath Yatra’, which lasted for 93 days. The main agenda of Rath Yatra was to connect all Indian rivers, eliminate terrorism, implement uniform civil code, remove untouchables and highlight their demands.
Radhakrishnan was appointed as the Chairman of the Coir Board, Kochi under the Ministry of Union Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises from 2016 to 2020 and held the post for four years.
Radhakrishnan has also visited several foreign countries, including America, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Netherlands, Turkish, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Japan.
