A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, which has left the entire community heartbroken. A 22-month-old boy, Alan Rumi, died after being hit by a neighbor’s car in the Muwelah area. This child was born after 6 years of the parents’ marriage and was their only support. Despite this deep grief, the child’s parents have taken a decision which is being discussed everywhere. He has forgiven the driver whose car caused this accident.
How did this tragic accident happen?
The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at approximately 7:00 pm. There is a kutcha and sandy parking near the family building in Muwaileh area. According to the police report, the child’s mother Safna had come down to throw the household garbage and the child was with her.
Meanwhile, the child suddenly ran away from his mother’s hand and came in the way of a car coming out of the parking lot. Due to the sandy area, the driver could not see the child and this accident happened. The driver, who happens to be their neighbour, did not wait for the ambulance and immediately ran to the nearby hospital with the child and mother. The child had serious internal injuries, due to which he was referred to the government hospital, but could not be saved.
Why did the father decide to forgive?
The child’s father Sherfuddin and mother Safna, who are residents of Kerala, have written to the police that they do not want to file any case against their neighbor. The father spoke very emotionally, “We have suffered a loss, we cannot bring it back. But we do not want any other family to suffer because of an unknowing mistake.”
Legally, under the new UAE traffic rules, a driver can be punished for causing death by negligence and a fine of at least 50,000 dirhams. There is also a provision of 2,00,000 dirhams as blood money (Diya). However, after the apology of the family, the personal claim against the driver will now be over, but the final report of the case is still with the Public Prosecution.
Funeral and police warning
The child was cremated on 12 February at Al Qusais Cemetery in Dubai. After this the parents returned to their home state Kerala. After this incident, Sharjah Police has issued an important warning to all the people.
Police have said that drivers need to be very careful while driving in sandy parking lots and residential areas. Parents have also been advised to never leave children unattended in parking areas as there may be blind spots for drivers.
