An important telephonic discussion took place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman on Saturday 28 March 2026. In this conversation, both the leaders talked about the increasing military tension and security challenges in the region. This is the second conversation between these two big leaders since the conflict started on February 28.

What was discussed on maritime trade and security of energy infrastructure?
Both leaders strongly condemned attacks on energy infrastructure. Prime Minister Modi and the Crown Prince acknowledged that securing maritime trade routes is essential for the entire world economy. In particular, it was agreed to continue the movement of ships through the Gulf countries and the Strait of Hormuz without any hindrance. He emphasized on ensuring the safety of ships and protecting international trade from the effects of war. There was also discussion on continuing the energy supply without any interruption.
Deteriorating security situation of Indians living in Saudi and the region
PM Modi thanked the Crown Prince for taking care and welfare of about 40 lakh Indian expatriates living in Saudi Arabia. For Indians working in Gulf countries, peace and security there is very important because any major tension has a direct impact on their jobs and travel. In recent times, several major incidents have taken place in the area which have increased the tension.
