Indian women’s cricket team created history after a long wait of 52 years. Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, Team India won its first ICC Women’s ODI World Cup title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final match played at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wrote, “Historic victory! Hearty congratulations to the world-winning Indian women’s cricket team. Hearty congratulations to the countrymen. You all are the pride of the country. Bharat Mata ki Jai!”
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “The daughters of world-winning India have brought glory to the country with their tireless hard work, dedication and self-confidence. We are proud of you.”

Batting first, India scored 298 runs for 7 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, South Africa was all out for 246 runs in 45.3 overs. Deepti Sharma took 5 wickets, while Shefali Verma took 2 wickets. Even South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt’s inning of 101 runs could not save the team from defeat.
The Women’s World Cup was started in 1973 and in 2025, the Indian team has made not only the sports world but the entire country proud by becoming world champion for the first time.
