A court in the national capital on Tuesday sent Jasir Bilal, an “active co-conspirator” of suicide bomber Omar un Nabi, to National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody for 10 days in connection with the Red Fort car bombing.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna approved the NIA’s request for custodial interrogation of the accused to investigate the case.
Due to security reasons, there was a ban on the entry of media persons into the court premises, due to which the proceedings were conducted almost behind closed doors. There was heavy deployment of Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) inside and outside the complex. Many security personnel equipped with anti-riot equipment also remained ready.
Bilal, who is a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag district, was arrested from Srinagar on Monday, the NIA said in its statement. He is accused of making technical changes to the drone and trying to make a rocket before the car bomb explosion, thereby providing technical support to the preparation of the terrorist attack.
The agency described him as an “active co-conspirator of the suicide attack” who planned the attack along with Umar Un Nabi.
Earlier on Monday, the court had also sent the main accused Aamir Rashid Ali to NIA custody for 10 days. According to the NIA, Aamir had helped Nabi by providing him with equipment and other necessary resources.
