At least seven international flights were canceled and more than 10 foreign flights were delayed at the Delhi airport on Tuesday due to the ash plume from the volcanic eruption in Ethiopia. Air India has canceled 13 flights since Monday.
Ash clouds from the recent Haile Gubbi volcanic eruption in Ethiopia are affecting flight operations and there are reports that these clouds are moving towards western parts of India.
Seven international flights, including those to and from Delhi airport, were canceled and 12 international flights were delayed due to the volcanic ash plume, an official said.
Indira Gandhi International Airport located in the national capital is the largest airport in the country, handling more than 1,500 flights daily. No immediate information about the situation was given by other Indian airlines on Tuesday.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Monday had asked the aviation companies to strictly follow the rules at flight levels and areas affected by volcanic ash.
