There is a big relief news for lakhs of people living in South Delhi and passing through there. A comprehensive action plan has been approved to free this important part of the capital from traffic jams and deal with severe waterlogging during monsoon. The Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) of the Delhi government has approved three major projects of the Public Works Department (PWD) in an important meeting. These projects will directly benefit those drivers who were forced to get stuck in traffic jams for hours, and the problem of ponding on roads during the rainy season will also become history.

The construction work of these three important projects will be completed within 30 months at a total cost of Rs 759 crore.

The administration has opened the treasury for these development works. As per the approved proposal, these three projects will cost a total of Rs 759 crore. This includes expansion of Modi Mill flyover, doubling of Savitri Cinema flyover and construction of a huge storm water drain on MB Road. Officials have clarified that emphasis will be laid on completing all these works within the time limit and a target of 30 months has been set for this. The government believes that once these projects are completed, there will be a revolutionary change in the traffic system of South Delhi.

The journey from Modi Mill to IIT Gate will be pleasant, a new two-way flyover will be built at the intersection of Outer Ring Road and Captain Gaur Marg.

In this entire exercise, the biggest emphasis is on the expansion of Modi Mill flyover. According to the plan, the entire corridor from Modi Mill to IIT Gate intersection will be made three-lane in both directions, which will increase the speed of vehicles. Under the project costing Rs 312.94 crore, a new two-way flyover will be built at the Outer Ring Road and Captain Gaur Marg intersection. Apart from this, a three-lane carriageway of 1140 meters long from Kalkaji Temple to Modi Mill and 870 meters long from Modi Mill to Kalkaji Temple in return will be ready. This will especially relieve people from traffic jams at busy intersections like Captain Gaur Marg and GK-2 Road.

There will be relief from the jam in front of Savitri Cinema, the plan to double the existing single flyover also got approval.

The existing single flyover located in front of Savitri Cinema was no longer capable of taking the load of the increasing traffic. In view of this, it has now been decided to double it. It is noteworthy that the existing flyover was built in 2001 only for the traffic going from Modi Mill to IIT. Now a new ‘half flyover’ will be built at a cost of Rs 58.81 crore for vehicles coming from IIT towards Modi Mill. This new flyover will be three lanes wide and 435 meters long. With its construction, traffic will become easier in both directions and long queues during peak hours will be eliminated.

There will be ‘the end’ to the problem of waterlogging in monsoon, 22 km long huge drain will be built on both sides of MB Road.

Along with traffic jams, waterlogging has been a major problem in South Delhi. For its permanent solution, a huge drain will be constructed on MB Road (Mehrauli-Badarpur Road). The project will extend from Lado Sarai T-point to Pul Prahladpur. Under the plan, 22.76 km long pre-cast RCC box drains will be built on both sides of the road, which will cost Rs 387.84 crore. Expressing happiness over this approval, the PWD Minister said that after the approval of EFC, the government is moving ahead with full determination towards its implementation. With these efforts, South Delhi will get signal-free traffic and due to construction of drain, there will be no problem of waterlogging during monsoon.
