A good news has come for India’s energy sector. Indian flagged LPG tanker Green Asha has safely transited the Strait of Hormuz on 5 April 2026. This has become the ninth Indian tanker to pass through this route amid the ongoing heavy tension in the Gulf region. Most of India’s gas and oil supplies go through this route, so the safe passage of these ships is very important for the country’s economy.
These ships also crossed this challenging route
Many Indian ships have been using this route for the last few weeks. According to reports, just a day before Green Asha i.e. on 4th April, another tanker named Green Sanvi has also passed safely through this route. At present there are a lot of concerns regarding security at sea but India has been successful in getting its ships out safely through its diplomacy. In the table below you can see the details of the recently launched ships:

Impact of talks between Iran and India
Iran has imposed restrictions on this route due to increasing tensions with America and Israel, but Indian tankers have been given special concessions. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has said that the government is in constant touch with Iran so that no harm is caused to Indian sailors and ships. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi has also called it a big diplomatic victory for India. Currently around 16 Indian ships are present in the area and the Indian Navy is monitoring them for their safety. This news has also brought relief to the families of those 20,500 Indian sailors who are currently present in the Gulf waters.
