The water level of Yamuna river in the capital Delhi has fallen to 206.47 meters under the old railway bridge on Saturday. This level was around 207 meters for several days. Officials said that this water level is above the danger mark 205.33 meters, although the water level has decreased.
The warning mark for the Yamuna River in Delhi is 204.50 meters while the danger mark is 205.33 meters. When the water level reaches 206 meters, people living on the banks of the river are transported to safe places. The old railway bridge is an important place to monitor the flow of the Yamuna River and the danger of possible floods.
Officers are closely watching on the water level of Yamuna river and all concerned agencies are on alert mode. Temporary tents have been installed in Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Mayur Vihar, Kashmiri Gate and nearby areas to bring people living in low-lying areas around the river to safe places. The affected people in these tents are taking shelter. According to the flood control department, 50,629 cusecs of water was released from Hathinikund barrage at 9 am on Saturday. At the same time, about 1,17,260 cusecs of water flows from Wazirabad barrage. The water released from barrages takes about 48 to 50 hours to reach Delhi.
The risk of floods is not considered less because the water level of Yamuna river is still above the danger mark. The administration has made complete preparations to protect the people living around the river. Officials are saying that the situation of water level and rain is constantly being monitored and more security arrangements will be made if needed. Meanwhile, people living on the banks of the river are cautious and are following the administration’s instructions. Relief work and rescue preparations are complete in areas affected by the rising water level of the river.
