From April 1, 2026, traveling on India’s national highways and expressways is going to be a bit expensive. National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has increased the price of FASTag annual toll pass for private vehicles. Now car, jeep and van owners will have to pay Rs 3075 instead of Rs 3000 for a one-year pass. This new rule is coming into effect from April 1 and will affect the common people who travel daily on the highways as well as the expatriates who come to India during holidays and travel long distances in their cars.
What is the new rule of FASTag annual pass and its benefits?
According to the new order issued by NHAI, the price of annual pass for private vehicles has been increased by 2.5 percent. This pass is valid for one year or till 200 toll crossings are completed, whichever is earlier. If the first 200 trips are exhausted, the pass has to be recharged again. This pass works at around 1150 toll plazas across the country. The most important thing is that this pass is digitally linked to the FASTag of one vehicle and it cannot be used in any other vehicle.
Last chance to get pass at old rate and preparation for digital payment
Officials have said that those who buy or renew their annual pass before March 31, 2026, can still get it at the old rate of Rs 3000. The pass can be easily purchased from Rajmargyatra mobile app or NHAI website. Along with this, there are also reports that NHAI is considering completely stopping cash payments at toll plazas from April 1, 2026. This means that now money can be paid on toll only through FASTag and UPI.
Why was the price increased and how popular is this pass?
According to NHAI, this change in prices is done every year keeping in mind inflation and operational expenses. This is a normal process which comes under the toll policy. This pass has become very popular among the common people. Since its launch on August 15, 2025, more than 52 lakh car owners have taken its subscription. About 28 percent of the total private transactions on National Highways are now done through this annual pass.
