In view of the increasing tension in West Asia, India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued an important advisory for Indian Airlines. In this new order, airlines have been advised to avoid certain airspaces in the Gulf region. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of the passengers as military tension between Iran and Israel has increased significantly. This order will remain in force till 28 March 2026.

Which countries’ airways will be affected?
DGCA has made it clear that passing over many countries of the Middle East can be risky at present. Airlines have been instructed to use alternative routes to these areas. The list of affected areas where flights have been banned or strict rules have been imposed is quite long.

What will be the impact on Indian migrants and travelers?
After this decision, there may be a change in the timings of flights operating from India between cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh and Qatar. Many airlines are now flying through the Northern Corridor or through Egypt which may increase travel time.
Companies like Air India, Indigo and Akasa Air are having to change their routes. A decrease in traffic is being seen at big airports like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In the southern parts of Saudi Arabia and Oman, it is mandatory to follow the altitude rule of 32,000 feet. Passengers have been advised to check the status of their flight before leaving the airport. This alert has been issued in view of the threat of missile and drone attacks.
