New Delhi. The central government has brought Unified Pension Scheme i.e. UPS for its employees. To avail UPS option from National Pension Scheme (NPS), central employees have to fill the form. They will be shifted from NCS to UPS only after filling the form. The Central Government has already extended the deadline several times for availing the option of UPS. Now if the option of UPS is to be taken, then the central employees have less time left for it.

Recently, the Central Government has set the date of 30 November 2025 for switching from NPS to UPS. Till this date, the Central Government employees who have given the option of UPS will not get the opportunity to shift from NPS to UPS. In such a situation, those central employees who want the option of UPS should fill the necessary forms and submit them by 30th November. From January 1, 2004, Central Government employees covered under NPS can take UPS. Apart from the current employees of UPS, retired employees since 2000 and spouses of deceased employees have been recognized. The central government had earlier kept the deadline for opting for UPS as 30 September 2025.

Under UPS, there is a provision for pension on minimum 10 years of service. Like NPS, employees also have to contribute for UPS. This contribution will be 10 percent. Whereas, the government’s contribution has been kept at 18.5 percent. There is a provision in UPS to give pension of 50 percent of their last basic salary to the employees on retirement. To shift to UPS, employees joining the Central Government on or after April 1, 2025, will have to fill Form A-1. Whereas, the central employees already working before this date will have to fill Form A-2. These forms are on www.npscra.nsdl.co.in. Which can be submitted offline and online. You will get a receipt after submitting the form.
