new Delhi. Seven people, including an 11-year-old child, were killed in a massive fire in Gokalpuri village of the national capital. An official gave this information on Saturday.
They received a call about a fire incident near pillar number 12 of Gokalpuri village in North East Delhi, following which 13 fire tenders were immediately pressed into service, the official said.
Delhi Fire Service chief Atul Garg told -AnyTV News: “Seven charred bodies have been recovered from the huts. The fire was in more than 60 huts.”
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and the fire was brought under control in four hours at around 3.45 am.
Giving details, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Devesh Kumar Mahla said that they received information about the incident of fire at Gokalpuri police station around 12 pm.
He said, “Police immediately reached the spot with all the rescue equipment. We also contacted the fire brigade which gave a very good response and with their help we were able to douse the fire by 4 am.”
He further said that in this incident at least 30 shanties were burnt to ashes along with their belongings and seven people lost their lives.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has expressed grief over the incident. “Heard the sad news early in the morning. I will visit the spot and personally meet the affected people,” the chief minister wrote on Twitter.
This is the biggest such incident in 2022, four days after a fire broke out at a plastic factory in outer Delhi’s Bawana area. There were no reports of any injuries or casualties then.
