Dalai Lama Janamdin English News: Buddhist religious leader Dalai Lama celebrated his 87th birthday on Wednesday (July 6, 2022). On this occasion, well-known Hollywood actor Richard Gere also attended his birthday celebrations in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh.
A video by news agency ANI shows actor Richard Gere attending a ceremony organized by the Central Tibetan Administration of the Tibetan government-in-exile at the main Buddhist temple at Tsugalgkhang in Dharamsala. Gere is a supporter and follower of the Dalai Lama.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished the Dalai Lama on his birthday. PM Modi also prayed for his long life and good health. PM Modi wrote in a tweet, “Wishing His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his 87th birthday over the phone on Wednesday. We pray for his long life and good health.”
As an international symbol of peace, harmony and non-violence, the Dalai Lama has gained recognition among the world’s political, religious and social leaders. He has been able to draw attention to the untold hardships of the Tibetan people living under Chinese rule as well as to China’s genuinely undemocratic, anti-religious and anti-human stance.
The Dalai Lama has received widespread global support for the Tibetan independence movement. He raised his voice and succeeded in promoting the rights of the Tibetan people, the restoration of thousands of Buddhist monasteries destroyed by China, and the release of hundreds of Tibetans who had been imprisoned by Beijing over the past several decades.
He has worked for the rights of Tibetans without resorting to violence. Every year, the 14th Dalai Lama’s followers around the world celebrate July 6 as “Avatar Day”. However, Avatar Day was not celebrated for the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Dalai Lama has been living in India since leaving China in 1959.
