Nupur Sharma, who was embroiled in controversies by commenting on Prophet Mohammad, has again approached the Supreme Court. Filing a new petition, he has demanded the court to stay the arrest in 9 FIRs registered against him. The court will hear his petition on Tuesday (July 19, 2022).
Nupur Sharma, in her previous petition, had appealed to link the FIRs registered against her in various places across the country with the Delhi case. He said that the first case against him was registered in Delhi, so the FIR registered at other places should be clubbed with the Delhi case as the allegations in all the FIRs are same. This was denied by the Supreme Court and for this he had also heard some strong things.
In the latest petition, Nupur Sharma argued that after the strong remarks made by the court in the past, she has started receiving more threats. He said the threat to his life has increased after the Supreme Court’s criticism and death threats are being made.
While hearing the previous petition of Nupur Sharma, the Supreme Court had said, “You are responsible for the worse situation in the country.” Thereafter, Sharma withdrew his petition. Reactions came from across the country on this strong remark of the court. Some former High Court judges had openly criticized such remarks.
It is worth noting that during a TV debate, Nupur Sharma had made remarks about Prophet Mohammad, after which there was a ruckus in the whole country. The matter had raised a lot at the international level as well and many Gulf countries had summoned the Indian ambassadors and lodged an objection. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party had expelled Nupur Sharma from the post of national spokesperson. At the same time, violent demonstrations took place in many cities of the country and there was a demand for the arrest of Nupur Sharma.
