Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday accused the BJP of pressurizing the state election commission to postpone the MCD polls by the central government. AAP convener Kejriwal was addressing the Delhi Assembly during the current budget session. He said the BJP does not want to hold the MCD polls as it is afraid of a “small party (AAP)”. BJP feels that if elections are held, it will go in favor of AAP.
According to Kejriwal, the Delhi Election Commission sent a press invitation on March 9 that the dates for the MCD elections would be announced in the evening. But on the same day, an hour before the dates were announced, the government wrote a letter to the Election Commission saying that we are going to make all the three municipal corporations of Delhi into one municipal corporation. In such a situation, municipal elections should not be announced yet.
On March 24, in the Delhi Assembly, Kejriwal targeted PM Modi, saying that the claim of “56-inch chest” is false.
Kejriwal said, “Assembly elections are to be held in Gujarat in December this year and people are saying that BJP will lose there. If they are going to lose, they will write to the Election Commission 10 days before the elections that we are mixing Maharashtra and Gujarat. So the elections should be postponed.”
He said, “Similarly, the next time they are losing in the Lok Sabha elections, they will write a letter saying that the parliamentary system is bad, and will talk about postponing the elections. What is this drama? India is a democracy, people will not tolerate this gimmick. BJP claims they are the biggest party and we are the smallest. Are you still scared? What a coward, man. If you have guts then contest the election. Let there be elections or else the 56-inch chest at the bottom of the kurta is false.
Kejriwal said the BJP felt the results would be “bad” if elections were held. He accused the BJP that the opposition, especially the BJP, hates Ambedkar. Ambedkar drafted the constitution which established India as a democracy where the people would vote and choose their government. But BJP does not want elections.
