In the Lok Sabha elections 2024, BJP’s Manoj Tiwari is facing a challenge from Congress’s Kanhaiya Kumar in the North East Delhi seat. Manoj Tiwari is a superstar of Bhojpuri cinema and has now made his mark in politics as well. At the same time, Kanhaiya Kumar started with student politics and now Rahul Gandhi is expressing full confidence in him. Most of the voters in North East Delhi Lok Sabha seat are those who have come from other states and settled here. Among these also the number of people from Purvanchal is high. Both BJP and Congress have given tickets to leaders from Bihar. Even though both these leaders are from Bihar, their politics has flourished in Delhi only. This has made the competition even more interesting.
The situation of Congress Party in Delhi is very bad. At present, there is no Congress MLA in the country’s capital. The country’s oldest party has not been able to win any seat in the Lok Sabha elections since 2014. At the same time, Bharatiya Janata Party has captured all the seven seats in the state. This time BJP canceled the tickets of six of its MLAs in Delhi, but expressed confidence only on Manoj Tiwari for the third time and Congress has made the contest interesting by fielding Kanhaiya in front of him.
BJP will get traditional votes
Manoj Tiwari has become MP from North East Delhi seat for two consecutive times. The people of Delhi vote on the face of Kejriwal in the state and Modi at the Centre. According to political experts, this time BJP will try to take advantage of Manoj Tiwari’s Sanatani image against Kanhaiya Kumar’s communist image. If the ruling party is successful in this, then Kanhaiya’s defeat is certain and Congress may suffer loss in other states also. According to the report, some Congress leaders are also worried about this.
What will be Congress’s move?
The Congress party will present Kanhaiya here as an educated and dynamic leader. Along with this, it will also try to garner sympathy due to Kejriwal being jailed. Kanhaiya has been very popular since the time of student politics. He is also a good speaker. In such a situation, he has the potential to become the face of change. He may become aggressive regarding Manoj Tiwari’s old statements. There are also a fair number of Muslim voters here. In such a situation, if there is polarization of votes, Kanhaiya may get Muslim votes. In 2019, Kanhaiya had lost against BJP’s Giriraj Singh on Bihari’s Begusarai seat, but since then everything has changed from his party to the seat and stature.
Equations of North East Delhi
There are 10 assembly seats under East Delhi Lok Sabha seat. Most of these assembly seats are in the possession of Aam Aadmi Party. This is one of the most densely populated areas of Delhi. The population here is more than 22 lakhs. Here, 28 percent Purvanchali and 23 percent Muslim voters are highest. Dalit voters are 16 percent, Brahmin 11 percent, Vaishya 4.5 percent, Gurjar 7.5 percent and OBC voters are 20 percent. The first election on this seat, which came into existence in 2008, was won by Jai Prakash Aggarwal of Congress. Whereas, in 2014 and 2019, BJP’s Manoj Tiwari became MP from here.
