The ADM of Kanpur city had rejected all recovery notices following the order of the Supreme Court. Now the district administration has issued an order to refund the amount of fine collected. Also, after refunding the money by cheque, complete information will be sent to the Supreme Court.
Now Tehsil staff will do door-to-door delivery to refund the deposited fine. Kanpur district administration has started deducting checks in the name of the person concerned. After this the refund will start reaching them from Monday. Rs 3.66 lakh has to be returned to 33 people in Kanpur.
According to the information received, similarly the fine will be refunded in the rest of the districts as well. Which has now started from Kanpur. The Yogi government is trying to settle the matter as soon as possible after the order of the Supreme Court.
In February, the Supreme Court ordered the state government to refund the ‘recoveries’. During the hearing of this case, the Yogi government was also reprimanded. After the intervention of the Supreme Court, the government withdrew the recovery notices.
This recovery was made in the name of damage to properties during the 2019 anti-CAA protests. In December 2019, the government had sent notices to 130 people, after which this figure had reached 274. Later 38 cases were closed. The Yogi government was already under the scanner for this recovery. After this, when the Supreme Court also gave its verdict against it, the Yogi government is now seen returning the money.
