The activism of senior leaders has intensified to remove internal discord in the Congress party. Senior leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda met Rahul Gandhi at his residence on Thursday after attending a meeting of G-23 leaders that took place at Ghulam Nabi Azad’s house on Wednesday night. All kinds of discussions have started in the political corridor regarding this.
Hooda is the first leader to meet Rahul Gandhi after the G-23 meeting. After the massive defeat of the Congress party in the recent elections in five states, there is a lot of speculation about the meeting of the leaders.
It is believed that in this meeting an initiative has been taken to remove the mutual displeasure of the leaders. Along with this, the possibility of talks is also being explored to bring everyone on one platform to show solidarity in the party. More recently, senior leader Kapil Sibal had raised questions about the leadership for the party’s defeat.
Meanwhile, senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad is expected to meet party chief Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath in New Delhi on Thursday after a meeting of G-23 members at his residence following the defeat of the Congress in five states. News agency ANI quoted sources as saying that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will also attend the meeting.
After Wednesday’s meeting, G-23 leaders said the only way forward for the oldest party was to adopt a model of collective and inclusive leadership and decision-making at all levels.
Hooda has been angry with his party for a long time because neither he nor his son Deepender Singh Hooda was made the party chief in Haryana. He is also having an argument with State Congress President Selja Kumari regarding this. But his personal displeasure is unlikely to be the issue behind his meeting with Rahul Gandhi just after attending a meeting of disgruntled leaders a day earlier.
