Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. The often late detection of breast cancer symptoms makes it even more dangerous. Many women do not have any symptoms of breast cancer so that they can know that cancer is hidden in their body. Actress Mahila Chaudhary also revealed that she had no symptoms and had just gone to the hospital for a routine annual health checkup. Come, let’s find out from a doctor how such a serious disease can remain hidden so silently.
Doctors say that cancer is such a disease that the sooner it is detected, the sooner it can be treated and the sooner it can be cured. However, many people often ignore the symptoms of cancer. Especially with breast cancer, people believe that young women can’t get it or that young girls are not at risk. It’s not like that.
silent breast cancer
According to Dr Pragya Chigurupathi, Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon, AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad, breast cancer can grow without any obvious symptoms, especially in the early stages. Because younger women have denser breast tissue, smaller tumors may remain hidden. In many cases, a woman may feel absolutely fine until the illness becomes severe. IVF expert Dr Ruchi Bhandari says 70-75% of women who recover have no family history, meaning most at-risk women are unaware of their risks.
Do your breast cancer test at home
Menstruating women should get tested at home once a month. It is best to touch your breasts 3-5 days after your period, when they are the least sensitive. If you are menopausal, you should self-examine your breasts on the same date every day. If you feel something unusual when you touch your breasts, consult a doctor. To check for breast cancer, stand in front of a mirror and check the size and shape of your breasts. If you notice any lumps, swelling, depressions in the skin, or skin-like growths, consult a doctor. Lift your sleeves and check the edges for knots. Use your three middle fingers and rotate in a circular motion. You can do this even while lying down. If you feel something different, not necessarily pain, consult a specialist.
Why is breast cancer more common in young women?
Doctors believe that breast cancer is on the rise in women under 40 years of age. The reason for this is change in lifestyle, eating more processed food, lack of physical activity, consumption of alcohol and smoking at a young age and increase in body fat. This increases estrogen levels, which promotes tumor growth. Another factor is reproductive and hormonal changes, including premature pregnancy, late childbearing, not breastfeeding, premature menstruation, and late menopause. Genetic factors can also contribute, as can excessive stress, excessive use of plastics and cosmetics.
