The festival of Karva Chauth is celebrated with great pomp throughout the country. This year it will be celebrated tomorrow, 10th October. On this day, married women observe a fast praying for the long life and happiness and prosperity of their husbands. Actually, Karva Chauth is not just a day of fasting, but also a symbol of affection and dignity in the relationship between husband and wife.

After fasting for the whole day, women break their fast in the evening by looking at the moon. Experts advise women to eat something light after breaking the Karva Chauth fast in the evening. Experts also advise women to eat nutritious food during Sargi (a sacred meal) before the fast, so that they do not face any problem throughout the day. So let us tell you today what women should and should not eat on Karva Chauth, and what measures they can adopt for a healthy Karva Chauth thali.

What to include in Sargi
Before the Karva Chauth fast begins, experts recommend including foods in the sargi that help maintain energy and hydration.
Carbohydrate rich foods – You can include carbohydrate rich parathas, dosas or cheela in your Karva Chauth sargi. Eating these can prevent hunger-related problems like flatulence and gas.
Milk based sweets – You can also include milk or milk based sweets or feni in your sargi.
Fresh fruits and vegetables – Include fresh fruits and vegetables, especially pomegranates, oranges and pineapples, in your sargi.
Dry Fruits – Soaked dry fruits, almonds, walnuts and raisins, along with coconut water, can be included in your sargi, which will keep the body hydrated and maintain mineral balance throughout the day.

What to eat after breaking the fast
Sweets – Experts recommend avoiding heavy meals immediately after breaking the Karva Chauth fast. Fast should always be broken with sweets. For this you can eat some sweets or kheer. It provides instant energy and keeps the stomach light.
Coconut Water – Drinking coconut water is beneficial to stay refreshed and hydrated after a dry fast, as it contains electrolytes that maintain the mineral balance of the body.
Light Food – After breaking the fast, it is beneficial to eat light foods like moong dal khichdi, vegetable upma and fruit salad. These are easy to digest and provide energy.

What not to eat after breaking the fast

Experts recommend avoiding oily and fried foods after breaking the Karva Chauth fast, as these foods can cause stomach problems. Fast food like samosas, burgers and pizza should also be avoided, as they can be heavy on the stomach. Apart from this, it is also advised to abstain from non-vegetarian food after fasting.
