Kidneys are one of the most important organs of our body. These not only purify the blood but also remove excess water and waste from the body. Over time, weakening of the kidneys can affect their function. Factors like diabetes, obesity, alcohol consumption and high blood pressure are considered responsible for chronic kidney disease. But do you know that some of your morning habits can also harm your kidneys? Dr. Venkatasubramaniam, a senior urologist from Chennai, has listed five such habits. Let us explain them.

stopping urination in the morning

The bladder fills to its full capacity during sleep, and upon waking, the body naturally signals the desire to urinate. However, holding urine for a long time puts pressure not only on the bladder but also on the kidneys. Holding urine for long periods of time can weaken the bladder muscles, increase the risk of infection, and damage kidney tissue. Doctors do not recommend stopping urination immediately after waking up and throughout the day.

not drinking water in the morning

Staying overnight without drinking water can cause mild dehydration. In this condition, the kidneys require extra fluids to function properly. If you only drink tea or coffee in the morning instead of water, the caffeine can dehydrate the body even more. Therefore, it is important to start the day with at least a glass of water.

taking painkillers on an empty stomach

Many people take painkillers like ibuprofen and aspirin on an empty stomach to get relief from morning headache or body ache. According to doctors, frequent consumption of painkillers reduces blood flow to the kidneys, increasing the risk of swelling and damage. Taking painkillers, especially on an empty stomach, further increases the chemical stress on the kidneys.

not drinking water after exercise

Exercising in the morning is good for health. However, if you do not drink water after sweating, your risk of dehydration increases. Water and electrolytes are lost from the body through sweat. If these are not replenished, blood flow to the kidneys is reduced, making it difficult to filter the blood and maintain fluid balance. Not drinking water, especially in the heat or during vigorous exercise, can cause serious damage to the kidneys.

skipping breakfast

Many people skip breakfast due to weight loss or busy schedules. However, this leads to the habit of eating high-salt snacks throughout the day, which increases sodium levels in the body. Prolonged starvation can worsen blood sugar levels and increase acid in the body. Both conditions put extra pressure on the kidneys. A balanced and healthy breakfast provides essential nutrients to the kidneys and makes their work easier.
