New Delhi, May 4 (). Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness during his visit to Jamaica. In this meeting, discussions were held to further strengthen cooperation and take forward relations between the two countries.
In a post on his social media account ‘X’, the External Affairs Minister said, “Delighted to meet Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness in Kingston. Conveyed greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussed further deepening of our political, economic and mutual cooperation. Appreciate his dedication towards further strengthening India-Jamaica relations.”
Foreign Minister Jaishankar said that during this meeting, in the presence of Jamaica’s Health Minister Christopher Tufton and Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson Smith, ten Bhishma cubes were formally handed over as a gift to Jamaica from India.
Designed for rapid deployment, the Bhishma Cube mobile hospital system will assist Jamaica during disasters and emergencies. This gift of these cubes is a symbol of friendship, a commitment to disaster preparedness, and a result of innovation.
Let us tell you that Foreign Minister Jaishankar is on an official tour of Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago from 2-10 May. These countries have a special connection with India because of the presence of indentured communities.
During the visit, the External Affairs Minister will meet the leadership of the three countries and hold talks with his counterparts on bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues of mutual benefit.
Earlier, during his Caribbean tour, Jaishankar visited Jamaica’s Old Harbor, an important site linked to the history of the Indian diaspora. During this he met the Indian community and appreciated their efforts to preserve their cultural heritage.
