Chandigarh. On Sunday morning, the weather in Chandigarh suddenly took such a turn that the day became as dark as night. Due to a strong storm on the dividing road of Sector 37-38, a tree fell on the middle of the road, due to which the one-way road was completely closed. After some time, teams from the concerned department reached the spot and started the work of removing trees and restoring the road. The Meteorological Department had already issued an alert regarding strong storm and rain, which proved to be completely correct in the morning. Many trees fell due to strong winds in different sectors of the city, affecting traffic. Weather U-turn in May:
As soon as dawn broke, dense and dark clouds covered the sky, causing darkness during the day. People living in Chandigarh for a long time are also considering such weather in the month of May as unusual.
Effect of storm and rain:
Due to strong winds and rain, a street light pole was uprooted outside the Anaj Bhawan near the Meteorological Department located in Sector-39 and fell on the road. Apart from this, roads were blocked due to falling trees in many areas.
According to the Meteorological Department, till 8:30 am, 19.7 mm rainfall was recorded in Chandigarh, while around 19 mm rainfall was recorded in Mohali. While this rain brought relief to the people from the scorching heat, a significant drop in the temperature was also recorded.
The minimum temperature in the city dropped to 17.1 degrees Celsius, which is 6.2 degrees below normal. A drop of 4.8 degrees was recorded in the temperature in the last 24 hours, due to which the weather remained relatively cool even in May.
Power supply was also affected in many areas due to strong winds and rain. In the message issued by the Electricity Department (CPDL), it was said that the supply has been disrupted due to strong winds. The work to restore supplies is being carried out rapidly by the teams and the situation is expected to return to normal soon.
