New Delhi. NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan was elected the new Vice President of the country. He got 452 votes in the Vice Presidential election. With this victory, Radhakrishnan will now take over as the Vice President of the country.
Born in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu in 1957, Radhakrishnan did his graduation at Business Administration. He came into public life as a volunteer of the RSS and became a member of the State Executive Committee of Jana Sangh in 1974. In 1996, he was made the state secretary of BJP and two years later, in 1998, he first reached Lok Sabha from Coimbatore. In 1999, he became an MP again.
While being an MP, he presided over the Parliamentary Standing Committee related to the textile and took important responsibilities in several committees including the Finance Consultative Committee. He was also a member of the parliamentary special committee investigating the stock exchange scam.
In 2004, he became part of the Indian parliamentary delegation addressing the United Nations General Assembly. The same year he also joined the first parliamentary delegation to Taiwan. From 2004 to 2007, he presided over the BJP Tamil Nadu unit. During this, he took out a 19,000 km long rath yatra lasted for 93 days, including issues like connecting rivers, eradication of terrorism, uniform civil code and de -addiction.
In 2016, he was made the chairman of the Kochi -based Care Board, where under his leadership, Care Export reached a highest level of Rs 2,532 crore. He was also in charge of Kerala BJP between 2020 and 2022.
On 18 February 2023, he was appointed the Governor of Jharkhand. He visited all 24 districts of the state in the first four months of the tenure. Apart from this, he has also handled additional charge of Telangana Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry for some time. On 31 July 2024, Radhakrishnan took oath as the Governor of Maharashtra and visited the entire state and interacted with various sections.
As the Governor, he preferred the quality of higher education and rural development. Radhakrishnan in student life was table tennis champion and long distance runner. He is also fond of cricket and volleyball.
Radhakrishnan has traveled to America, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Holland, Turkish, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Japan.
CP Radhakrishnan, who has been active in politics and public life for more than four decades, will now play a new responsibility as Vice President.
